Reinforcement for Appropriate Behavior
To encourage students to follow classroom rules, both Mrs. Gray and I use the Clip Chart System. Each student has a clip with their name on a chart in the room. Students can clip up or clip down according to their behavior. For good behavior, students clip up. For inappropriate behavior in the classroom or during a specialist students may clip down. Students clip up for a variety of reasons including, working quietly, helping others, using kind words, trying their best, helping to clean up etc. In addition to the clip chart we also use in individual sticker charts where students earn stickers based on their behavior. Once they fill their sticker chart they can go to the prize box! Both systems are a great way for students to monitor their own behavior and have instant accountability for their choices in class.
